Flamecraft Video Game Review
What is Flamecraft?
Board game turned into a digital game!
Flamecraft is a multiplayer, turn-based strategy board game turned digital. Become a Flamekeeper and help artisan dragons and shopkeepers delight the townspeople with their crafts. Gather and manage resources, enhance the shops by casting enchantments, and magic your way to becoming the best!
Dragons and their special abilities.
The game opens with a fantastically narrated tutorial that explains the game’s mechanics in depth. You manage resources, expand your town, and harness special abilities from different dragon types.
How is the Game?
Overall, the game was a perfect translation of a board game into the video game format. There are a large variety of game modes such as, solo, multiplayer, custom, and online. With so much playability and the story elements of the solo campaign, I was not bored as a new player. The music and art style kept me thoroughly engaged during matches. The gameplay loop and the resource management was entertaining with the competitive elements against other players. The multiplayer aspects made me want to try even harder to get the best output possible with my in-game items.
Much unlike what I’ve played in the past, I struggled a little to fully understand the mechanics due to the game being a slightly complex, board-style design. So returning to the tutorial was very welcome, especially with the lovely voice acting they provided for the entire explanation.
Do I recommend Flamecraft?
Yes! This is a fantastic example of a board game translating well into a video game format. Between the large variety of dragons and the strategy behind the resource management, I highly recommend this title for both experienced and new players of the genre. Having this board game digitally accessible will prolong it’s life span, and allow long distance players to have a chance to play together on any platform with cross play.
